There are four elements within the scope of Family Shelter Services (FSS): Two Emergency Family Shelters— one in Port Angeles and one in Sequim; Homelessness Prevention and Tenant Based Rental Assistance.

Port Angeles Emergency Family Shelter

An eight-unit apartment complex which is leased by Serenity House for homeless adults with at least one minor child. No drug or alcohol use is allowed at the family shelter. Residents may stay up to 60 days.

Sequim Emergency Family Shelter

Up to two units of the Cedar Crest Apartments in Sequim operate within the same rules and guidelines as the emergency family shelter in Port Angeles.

Tenant Based Rental Assistance (TBRA)

A joint program with the Housing Authority, providing rental assistance and counseling to formerly homeless families seeking permanent, stable housing.

Homelessness Prevention

Prevents homelessness by providing one-time funds to pay for rent, deposits, or house payment when there is an imminent eviction or foreclosure. Clients must have proof they will be able to make the following month’s rent or mortgage payment. These funds may also be used for the start-up costs of moving into a rental unit.

Application Process:  Serenity House uses a single application form for households to apply to the Family Shelter Services, One Family-One Home, Evergreen Family Village, Serenity Court, and Transitions to Housing programs.  Staff then determines which program best fits the needs of the applicant.  Interviews are made by staff, with the household then placed on a waiting list for the next available opening.

Call or come in for an application to any of our family services. Applications are taken at the front desk at the Administration building, located at 2203 West 18th Street, Port Angeles, WA 98363 between 8am and 5pm Mondays through Fridays.
