The SAS provides emergency shelter, meals, showers, laundry, and other basic needs for homeless single adult men and women. Admittance to the shelter is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Included in this population are adults suffering from substance abuse, domestic violence, chronic medical issues, or loss of employment. Some residents are chronically homeless; some have permanent disabilities, medical or mental health conditions.
Changes in the economy have forced some out of work and have altered options for employment for others.
Intensive Case Management is the core of this program. It includes individualized goal planning, advocacy, and short-term counseling.
Supportive services include basic life skills training, access to community resources, employment-seeking skills, and relapse prevention.
The new SAS has 40 beds in the emergency program, with a maximum stay of 90 days. There are 10 beds allocated for a transitional program in which residents can participate for up to six months.
The Single Adult Shelter, in conjunction with the Housing Authority, operates the Tenant-Based Rental Assistance (TBRA) program, which provides rental assistance and case management to formerly homeless individuals seeking permanent, stable housing.
